Guided Bucharest Free Tour

As announced, we have started a series of blog posts about all the tours in the UEFT network. Last month we presented Budapest. This month we have our neighbours on the list – our Romanian friends from Guided Bucharest Tours. There are only two NGOs in the United Europe Free Tours network – our 365 Association and the Association behind Guided Bucharest. This made our friendship very close very quickly since we share both similar challenges and common values. Their free walking tour runs every day at 11 AM. However, in the spring there will be a change in the schedule – 2 tours a day at 10 AM and at 6 PM. Just like Sofia, Bucharest is a four seasons destination! Neither sun, nor rain, nor snow can prevent the tours from being as entertaining and exciting as they are.         Besides the walking tour, they also has its bike trip which goes through 5 different parks and visits various places of interest. The bike trips require a […]

Christmas Workshop in Doganovo

After the great Green Day we organized for the kids from Doganovo, our Social Program decided to make the meetings with them more regular. So, in December we spent an afternoon in the Home crafting various traditional souvenirs and decorations typical for Christian countries around the globe to better their knowledge and spike their curiosity about the big round world. We showed them some pictures and taught them some stories about how people in Bulgaria, Germany, Australia, Argentina and the Philippines celebrate Christmas. We started with Christmas stockings… … and continued with angels 🙂 For the decoration of advent wreaths we had planned to use some typical German styles but the kids turned out to be far more creative combining everything we brought to make amazing new types of wreaths. We even came up with some ideas for decorating typical Philippine wreaths! The traditional Bulgarian thing that we made was Survachka.  Survachka is a small decorated branch that Bulgarian children use pat their relatives lightly on the back to wish them health […]

Meet our Friends from Trip to Budapest

Free Sofia Tour is not the only free walking tour in Europe. Actually, some time ago we presented to you our informal network of free tours in Europe: United Europe Free Tours. In a series of blog posts, we are going to present to you our UEFT friends from the different countries. Let’s start with a Trip to Budapest 🙂 The organization is family run and started with the tours in 2007. It’s one of the first independent free walking tour organizations in Europe. Tours leave daily at 10:30AM and 2:30PM from the Vörösmarty Square (tér). The meeting point is at the lion fountain – final stop of the M1 yellow line. The tour lasts for about 2.5 hours and covers about 3.5 kilometers.     All guides are local so the tour includes a lot of fun stories and local anecdotes. The guides are extremely knowledgeable, but don’t expect history lessons 🙂 You will also hear a lot about Hungarian customs, language (which is veeeery veeeery peculiar and difficult to learn!), […]

Sofia Christmas Market | The Weihnachtsmarkt

The Deutsche Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market) is back! From the 19th of November 2019 to the 21st of December, in the City Garden at the Batenberg Square, every local can experience the Christmas spirit with a cup of mulled wine and a portion of the traditional German “wurst”. The Sofia Christmas market is back! This year a green COVID certificate is required for those who would like to enjoy it. The Weihnachtsmarkt tradition The Christmas market is a tradition that goes back quite a long way. During the late Middle ages, in the German speaking countries, the Weihnastsmarkt became a conventional celebration of the four weeks before Christmas, called Advent. For a predecessor of the festival is considered the December market in Vienna, Austria, held more than 700 years ago! This month, for the 11th time in a row, the citizens of Sofia will experience Christmas in the style of Berlin! The market will offer traditional West European dishes and mulled wine (Glühwein), prepared based on a unique recipe. A meal worth […]

Donations for the Refugees

We are so happy that you exist! Thank you! This is how one of the donors welcomed the new initiative of our Association – to open up a collection point for plates, cutlery, detergents and small appliances to support the refugees in Sofia. We already welcomed two donors that brought a lot of stuff: The donors mentioned that they have been quite disappointed with the other donation programs that are currently offered to help the refugees, and they were glad to learn about our collection point. You can bring your contributions in our office at 163A G.S. Rakovski Str., doorbell 365 during our opening hours: Mon 14-19 Tue 10-19 Thu 10-19 If you have any issues finding our office, please call us at +359 884 462481. The idea was born in the team of the Social Program of our Association. We will collect donations until the end of November and will deliver all the collected things to one of the refugees camp in Sofia. Thank you in advance for your contributions!

Halloween Ball 31.10.2013

For an English version, see below
