The tour starts at 09:00 AM with departure from Alexander Nevsky Square (behind the cathedral). You’ll travel around two hours through the Rila Mountains to reach Rila Monastery, a symbol of Bulgarian spirituality and culture.
There, your guide will lead a 40-minute tour of the monastery’s stunning architecture, richly decorated church, and preserved medieval tower. After the guided portion, you’ll have around 2.5 hours of free time to visit the museum (optional, extra fee), take photos, browse souvenir shops, or enjoy lunch at a bakery or with food you’ve brought along.
At approximately 14:00, you’ll head back toward Sofia, stopping en route to visit the Boyana Church, located at the foot of Vitosha Mountain. This small but historically significant church features iconic frescoes from 1259, considered a turning point in medieval art. The visit at Boyana lasts around 30 minutes.
Return to Sofia is expected around 17:00 – 17:30, depending on traffic.
